Tools of the Trade

This page contains a list of products we recommend.

There are three things you will need for our nutrition coaching program: a weight scale, a food scale, and a tape measure. Then, there are several other products we recommend or endorse that will help you along the way.

You don’t have to buy these exact items. These are just the ones we have experience with and recommend. We constantly update this page as products change or we learn about new things.

Body Weight Scales

One piece of data we use to prescribe macros is your body weight trend. And that means you have to weigh yourself every day. Both of these scales are great options.

For less than $20, it’s hard to beat a rating of 4.4 with nearly 22,000 reviews on Amazon. And it comes with the body tape measure you’ll need.

If you’re a techie who wants all the latest bells and whistles, this scale comes with Bluetooth. It will sync with various fitness apps like Fitbit and Apple Health.

Food Scales

And maybe even more important than the body weight scale, you’ll need a food scale. The only way to know how much food you’re cooking and eating is to weigh it. You can’t trust the packaging!

The food scale has a 4.5 rating with over 16,000 reviews. You’ll want the elevated weighing surface so your plates don’t cover up the LCD screen.

This food scale has an angled control panel and LCD screen, making it even easier to read. If you use large bowls or InstantPots often, you’ll appreciate that.

Tape Measures

A lot of scales come with a “free” tape measure. But if the one you get doesn’t–or if you just want something different–these are good.

You don’t need anything special here. The free one that comes with most body weight scales is fine. However, this one is nice because it has a slot to hold the end of the tape (instead of pinching your fingers together).

This tape is made out of cloth rather than plastic or vinyl. That means it won’t be freezing cold on your skin at 6:00 am. And yes, that’s a thing.

Other Products We Love

These aren’t necessities. But we do absolutely love these things!

If you’ve never used an Instant Pot, you don’t know what you’re missing. This is by far the best kitchen tool for cooking food in bulk–and fast! It’s like a slow cooker on steroids. Prepare to have your mind blown.
